The Continental Group of companies has been involved in the Western
Canada electric motor repair industry since 1981. Robert Baker, an
Alberta master electrician, had the foresight to predict a need for
uncompromising services to the electrical supply and repair market of
Alberta and originally formed the company. After building a large
customer base in Calgary, Rob went into partnership with The Madison
Group in Vancouver, bought the former Standard Electric in Edmonton and
later assimilated Star Electric to the Calgary facility.
Comprised of four (4) main business groups: electric motor and generator
repair, transformer repair, machine shop and field electrical services
including CO2 cleaning. The group adheres to ISO 9001:2000 and is a
member of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) and has
registration in The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists,
Geophysics of Alberta (APEEGA). This diverse service offering
allows our clients to deal with one company for all their electrical and
equipment needs.
Both Calgary's 28,000 and Edmonton's 31,000 square foot shops are the
largest combined facilities in Western Canada dedicated to electrical
apparatus repair. Both shops are CSA approved for the repair to
explosion-proof motors and have certified operational safety programs (COR).
They are fully equipped with state of the art equipment that is utilized
by our dedicated staff of highly skilled motor rewind mechanics,
machinists, and support personnel.
The company boasts a staff of over one hundred who together represent
the best available expertise in the industry. In an ever-changing
marketplace where electrical systems have become complex, delivering the
best team with the latest techniques and technology is critical. Such
innovative ideas include Total Motor Management (TMM), a web-based
system for assisting customers with spares inventory and critical motor
management; industrial cleaning processes such as dry-ice blasting: to
clean electronics, special equipment and fin-fans on cooling towers with
an environmentally friendly and non-destructive process; and nation-wide
supply of electric motors and motor accessories to National and
Multi-national corporations.
Our strategic alliances with companies such as Hyundai Heavy Industries
(hyundai electric motors), National Electric Coil (power plant
overhauls), Marathon and Baldor Reliance (electric motor sales) gives us
a competitive advantage in the industry to provide new products and
repair engineering second to none.
